What Is PRP Treatment?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), is among the most preferred cosmetic applications of recent years with its skin regenerating and rejuvenating properties and damage reversing effects.

Platelets are cells present in human blood, which help form blood clots and contain growth factors that are needed to repair damaged tissues. In case of tissue damage, blood carries platelets to the injured tissue, which initiates the repairing process.

The aim of PRP treatment is to achieve a more rapid healing process of tissues by administering a higher number of platelets to the damaged tissue than what can be delivered by circulation.

How Is the Procedure Carried Out?

For PRP application, 10 to 20 ml of blood is taken from the person and transferred to special tubes. These tubes are then placed in a special centrifuge device that rotates at high speeds (3000 rpm). After the centrifugation process, which takes about 9-10 minutes, the plasma, which is the platelet-rich part of the blood, is separated from the rest of the blood components.

Thrombocyte-rich plasma, which contributes to the repair and healing process of the tissue and contains growth factors, is injected into the treatment site using fine needles. Injected growth factors spread to the lower skin layers to regenerate the tissue, triggering collagen and elastin production.

Which Parts of the Body Can PRP Be Administered to?

  • The face, including under the eyes,
  • Neck and the décolleté,
  • Hair roots,
  • Neck,
  • Hips,
  • Inner thighs,
  • Back of the hand.

Which Conditions Can Be Treated With PRP?

  • Skin saggins and wrinkles,
  • Scars including acne scars,
  • Skin regeneration,
  • Strech marks,
  • Pockmarks on the skin,
  • Hair loss,
  • Dark spots on the skin.

Who Can Not Get PRP Treatment?

  • Individuals with a low platelet count,
  • Patients with chronic liver conditions,
  • Those with active infection,
  • Those using blood thinners,
  • Individuals with coagulation disorders,
  • Cancer patients,
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals.

What Measures Should be Taken After the Procedure?

In some cases, small and transient bruises and redness may occur due to the punctures. These side effects can be alleviated by applying ice compress.

Sunbathing and sunbeds should be avoided during the course of PRP treatment. After the course of treatment is completed, sunbathing can be resumed once skin sensitivity and bruises are resolved. The individual can resume their daily activities after the procedure.

What Are the Advantages of the Procedure?

  • It is a very safe method with no risk of allergic reaction as the platelets administered to the individual during the process are obtained from their own blood,
  • It is a comfortable procedure that does not cause severe pain or aching,
  • When combined with laser, radiofrequency, and light therapy, PRP can increase the efficacy of these methods while shortening the recovery period,
  • It naturally regenerates the skin and provides it with radiance and vitality,
  • Its effects are long lasting.
